The unrest began when protesters gathered to voice their grievances against the killing of blasphemy suspect Dr. Shahnawaz Kunbhar and rising extremism in Sindh.
The situation escalated quickly as protesters clashed with police outside the Karachi Press Club. Law enforcement used batons and tear gas to disperse the crowd, and aerial firing and stone pelting were reported.The police and Rangers managed to arrest more than 140 individuals for violating the ban on public gatherings.
The administration of Karachi had imposed Section 144, prohibiting the assembly of four or more people, in response to potential security threats and to maintain law and order. Despite these measures, the protests continued, leading to injuries and heightened tensions in the city.
