In a significant move to bolster bilateral relations and explore new avenues of cooperation, Malaysian Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim is set to visit Bangladesh on Friday. This visit marks a pivotal moment in the diplomatic ties between the two nations, aiming to elevate their partnership to new heights.

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s visit comes at the invitation of Professor Muhammad Yunus, the Chief Advisor of Bangladesh’s interim government. The Malaysian Prime Minister is expected to arrive in Dhaka on the afternoon of October 4th and will engage in a series of high-level meetings during his brief stay.

The primary focus of the visit will be on enhancing economic, political, and social cooperation between the two countries. Discussions will cover a wide range of topics, including trade and investment, education, technology, human resource development, and defense cooperation. Additionally, the leaders will explore opportunities for collaboration in infrastructure development and manpower export.

A key highlight of the visit will be the bilateral meeting between Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and Professor Yunus, where they will discuss mutual interests and strategies to strengthen the fraternal relationship between Bangladesh and Malaysia. The meeting will be followed by a joint briefing to the media.

The visit is also expected to address regional issues, including the Rohingya crisis, and discuss Bangladesh’s potential role as a ‘Sectoral Dialogue Partner’ in ASEAN, with Malaysia set to chair the organization in January 2025.

This visit underscores the deep-rooted friendship between the two nations and is anticipated to pave the way for sustainable and long-term cooperation. Malaysia is currently the eighth-largest investor in Bangladesh, with significant investments in various sectors, including education and medical tourism.

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s delegation will include senior officials from Malaysia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Trade and Investment, and other key ministries, reflecting the comprehensive nature of the discussions planned.

As both countries look forward to this important visit, it is expected to further solidify their partnership and open new horizons for collaboration and mutual growth.
